Ka-Bar Black Cutlass Machete Yes this is a well made blade and it came from the factory with a razor sharp edge. The grip is great. I got a leather sheath. You are going to get Cordura. This thing is a super chopper. For something as compact as it is you can really drive it deep into a sapling. The best way is to bend the sapling near the base and chop into the bow or take off a limb at the trunk. If you have any muscle at all and any skill at placing your cuts you can hack through a wrist thick sapling with a few whacks. If I can do it at almost sixty you should be able to do it at less. A young guy in good shape might be able to do it with one chop.
If you are going to use this on grass or weeds you need to grab the grass or weeds in one hand and chop with the other near the ground. Hitting light springy stuff any distance away from it's anchor point will allow the plant to much room to absorb the force of the blow and bounce back the blade or bend out of the way...When transporting I strongly recommend that you carry it in the sheath to protect the edge and whatever might come in contact with the edge and no I haven't had an accident with it or damaged it yet. I'm just explaining how to not ruin your day or end up with a dull blade when you need a sharp one. ?8^)
